New Online Process for Registration of IEC – Import Export Code in India from July 2020

Import export code or IEC is a ten digit identification number that is issued by DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Department of Commerce, Government of India and possesses a lifetime validity. It is also known as Importer and exporter code.

IEC code helps a person make import and export of goods legally. It is required for the persons engaged in business of import and export of goods. Importer cannot import goods without having a valid IEC code and also the exporter cannot avail the export scheme benefit available from DGFT without having proper IEC code.

List of documents required for IEC registration:

The following are the documents required for IEC Code registration:

  1. Scanned copy of proof of establishment/incorporation/registration for the given entity. This supporting document is mandatory for Partnership, Registered Society, Trust, HUF, Others.
  2. Scanned copy of passport size Photo
  3. He should have a Current or Savings bank account in a bank which deals in Foreign Exchange.
  4. He should have scanned copy of sale deed, rental/lease deed, electricity/phone bill for address verification
  5. If an applicant is Non-Resident Indian (NRI) or there is Non-Resident interest in the firm/company they are required to submit the scanned copy of RBI approval letter.
  6. He should have an email-id and mobile number.
  7. He should have a scanned copy of Cancelled Cheque with Entity’s or Individual’s name pre-printed on it OR he should have Bankers Certificate in the prescribed format.
  8. He should have a Net Banking account or Debit/Credit card for Online payment of Government Fees of Rs. 500/-
  9. Details of Proprietor, all partners in case of firm or Director in case of company as applicable
  10. User should have an active DSC or Aadhaar of the firm’s member for submission

The following is the procedure for IEC code registration:

Step 1: https://dgft.gov.in/CP/

Now, Click on “Apply for IEC” button

Step 2: Enter the Registration Details as below:

1. Register User as “Importer/ Exporter”

2. First and Last Name

3. Email id and Mobile no of the applicant

4. Pincode, District, State and City

After entering the details click on “Send OTP” button. Enter the OTP received on mail id and mobile no. Upon Successful validation of the OTP, you shall receive a notification containing the temporary password on your mail id which you need to change upon first login.

Step 3: Filing of IEC registration form:

Once the user registers and logs in to the Customer Portal using the credentials entered in step 2. Now, click on “Apply IEC” button and click on start fresh application option. Now start filing the following details in the IEC code registration form:

A. General Information:

1. Nature of concern

2. Firm Name

3. PAN of the Entity

4. Name as per PAN

5. Date of Birth/ Incorporation of the entity

6. Category of exporter i.e. whether it is Merchant exporter or Manufacturer exporter or Merchant cum Manufacturer exporter or Service provider or any other category.

7. Select, Whether the firm is located in Special Economic Zone (SEZ)?

8. Select, Whether the firm is located in Export Oriented Unit (EOU) Scheme, Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) Scheme, Software Technology Park (STP) Scheme or Bio-Technology Park (BTP) scheme)?

9. Enter CIN/ LLPIN in case of LLP or company

10. Enter GST no

11. Enter the mail and mobile no for correspondence purpose

12. Upload proof of establishment/incorporation/registration for the given entity. This supporting document is mandatory for Partnership, Registered Society, Trust, HUF, Others.

13. Enter the firm address details

14. Upload supporting documents as Proof of Address. This can be any of the following:

a. Sale Deed, Rent agreement, lease deed, electricity bill, telephone landline bill, mobile, postpaid bill, MoU.

b. Other acceptable documents (for proprietorship only): Aadhar card, passport, voter id.

c. In case the address proof is not in the name of the applicant firm, a no-objection certificate (NOC) by the firm premises owner in favor of the firm along with the address proof may be submitted.

After filling the above details click on “Save and Next” button.

B. Now add details of Proprietor/Partner/Director/Karta/Managing Trustee of the entity which includes the following:

1. Name as per PAN database

2. PAN no of the person i.e. Proprietor/Partner/Director/Karta/Managing Trustee

3. Date of birth as per PAN

4. Address of the Proprietor/Partner/Director/Karta/Managing Trustee

5. Mobile no of the Proprietor/Partner/Director/Karta/Managing Trustee

After filling the above details click on “Save and Next” button

C. Enter bank Information of the entity like account number IFSC code, Account holder Name, Bank and Branch name. Also upload cancelled cheque of the bank account or Bank certificate as per the proforma specified.

After filling the above details click on “Save and Next” button

D. Now, select other Details i.e. Preferred sectors of operations:

After filling the above details click on “Save and Next” button.

E. Select the acceptance of declaration/undertaking and fill the Place, now click on “Save and Next” button

Step 4: Final Submission:

After step 3, click on “Sign” button at the bottom of the page

Now, select the mode of submission i.e. either through Digital signature certificate or Aadhaar OTP.

In case of Aadhaar OTP, enter the Virtual ID/ Aadhaar number and click on get OTP and Submit the form

After the signing of form is done, Confirm and proceed to make the payment against application. For Payment you shall be redirected to Payment Gateway (Bharatkosh). The Application of IEC Fee is Rs 500.

After Successful Payment the Page shall be redirected to the DGFT Website and the receipt shall be displayed, the use can also download the receipt. In case of failure of Payment, please wait for an hour to reflect the payment from the Payment Gateway (BharatKosh).

The user shall receive the IEC Certificate in the email (used while applying for IEC) and if required the User can download the IEC Certificate after login the DGFT Website and using “Print Certificate” feature in “Manage IEC”. The IEC shall be transmitted to CBIC and the transmission status can be seen by Navigating to “My IEC” and checking the IEC Status bar with “CBIC Transmission Status”.

Note:

In order SIGN the IEC form the applicant must update the PAN of the Signatory under “My Dashboard” tab and select”View and register digital signature Token”
