CBI charges CGST official with “seeking Rs. 1 crore in bribes”
A superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) from Mumbai and two other people have recently been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) Anti-Corruption Wing for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 1 crore from a man in exchange for not having his businessman friend arrested in a tax evasion case
According to the case filed with the CBI, Dhirendra Kumar, the superintendent at the Anti-Evasion, CGST Mumbai Central Commissionerate, Churchgate, was the subject of a complaint made by Kandivali resident Jitendra Lunawat on April 20
On behalf of his buddy Arpit Jagetiya, who operates a gold buying and selling company, Lunawat filed the lawsuit. According to the accusation, Dhirendra Kumar asked for and afterwards took a bribe of Rs 1 crore
According to a preliminary investigation by the CBI, Dhirendra Kumar is handling a case of CGST evasion against Shree Bullions and others that is now pending
According to the FIR, on April 20, 2023, around 4:30 pm, Dhirendra Kumar and other individuals met Arpit Jagetiya at the CC Creation Building in Kalbadevi. Later, he forced him to visit the CGST office on the third level of Churchgate and detained him there for about five to six hours. “Dhirendra asked for Rs 1 crore in this instance in exchange for not detaining Arpit Jagetiya. After some haggling, he agreed to accept Rs 50 lakh, of which Rs 25 lakh had to be paid immediately and the balance Rs 25 lakh on April 21
