All you need to know about the new Aadhaar PVC Card

An Aadhaar card is a unique number issued to every citizen in India and is a centralised and universal identification number. The Aadhar card is a biometric document that stores an individual’s personal details in a government database, and is fast becoming the government’s base for public welfare and citizen services. It can be used for a number of purposes, making it a universally acceptable government-issued card, without needing to register or apply for a separate card for each of these services.

Earlier, the Aadhaar card received at our postal address was very bulky and it was difficult to carry it.  Now, the Aadhaar issuing body, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), announced that individuals can now order Aadhaar in a PVC card form. For this, the individual will have to pay a nominal fee. The PVC card is easy to carry, more durable, instantly verifiable offline.

Who can get the Aadhaar PVC Card?

Any individual having an Aadhaar number can get the Aadhaar PVC card. “Order Aadhaar Card” is a new service launched by UIDAI which facilitates the Aadhaar holder to get their Aadhaar details printed on PVC card by paying nominal charges. Residents who do not have registered mobile number can also order using Non-Registered /Alternate Mobile Number.

What are the features of the Aadhaar PVC Card?

The Aadhaar PVC Card has the following features:

  • It is more durable, convenient to carry
  • It has instant offline verification by QR code.
  • It has good printing quality and it comes with lamination
  • It has the latest security features including a hologram, Guilloche Pattern, ghost image & Microtext.
  • It contains security features like issue date & print date.
  • The card is completely weather-proof.
  • It contains the embossed Aadhaar logo.

What are the charges for applying for the Aadhaar PVC Card?

Individual will have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 50 (inclusive of GST and speed post charges) while ordering the Aadhaar PVC Card

What is the procedure to apply for the Aadhaar PVC Card using registered mobile number?

Person wanting the Aadhaar PVC Card using registered mobile number has to follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Step 1 – Please Visit https://uidai.gov.in or https://resident.uidai.gov.in
  • Step 2 – Click on “Order Aadhaar Card” Service.
  • Step 3 – Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number (UID) or 16-digit Virtual Identification Number (VID) or 28-digit Enrolment ID.
  • Step 4 – Enter the security code
  • Step 5 – If you have TOTP, choose option “I have TOTP” by clicking in check box else Click on “Request OTP” button.
  • Step 6 – Enter OTP/TOTP received on registered mobile number. Click on the check box against “Terms and Conditions”. Click on “Submit” Button to complete OTP/TOTP verification.
  • Step 7 – On next screen, preview of the Aadhaar details will appear for verification by resident before placing the order for reprint.
  • Step 8 – Click on “Make payment”. You will be re-directed to Payment Gateway page with payment options as Credit/Debit Card, Net banking and UPI.

After successful payment, receipt will get generated having digital signature which can be downloaded by resident in PDF format. Resident will also get the Service Request Number via SMS.

Resident can track the status of SRN till dispatch of Aadhaar Card on Check Aadhaar Card Status.

SMS containing AWB number will also be sent once dispatched from DoP. Resident can further track delivery status by visiting DoP website

What is the procedure to apply for the Aadhaar PVC Card using non-registered or alternate mobile number?

Person wanting the Aadhaar PVC Card using non-registered or alternate mobile number has to follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Step 1 – Please Visit https://uidai.gov.in or https://resident.uidai.gov.in
  • Step 2 – Click on “Order Aadhaar Card” Service.
  • Step 3 – Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar Number (UID) or 16-digit Virtual Identification Number (VID) or 28-digit Enrolment ID.
  • Step 4 – Enter the security code
  • Step 5 – Click on check box “If you do not have a registered mobile number, please check in the box”.
  • Step 6 – Please enter Non-Registered / Alternate Mobile Number and Click on “Send OTP”
  • Step 7 – Click on the check box against “Terms and Conditions” and click on “Submit” Button to complete OTP verification. No preview of the Aadhaar details will be available.
  • Step 8 – Click on “Make payment”. You will be re-directed to Payment Gateway page with payment options as Credit/Debit Card, Net banking and UPI.

What are the modes available to make the payment of the Aadhaar PVC Card?

Presently, the payment can be made using Online Mode of Payment. Residents can use Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI payment methods while making payment

Within how much time will a person receive the Aadhaar PVC Card?

Once the request is raised, the UIDAI will hand over the card to the post office within 5 working days (excluding the date of request) and the PVC card will be delivered using Speed Post services.

Can the status of the Aadhaar PVC Card be tracked?

Person wanting to track the Aadhaar PVC Card has to follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Step 1: The status of the Aadhaar PVC card can be tracked on http://www.uidai.gov.in under the ‘My Aadhaar’ tab.
  • Step 2: Under the ‘My Aadhaar’ tab, click on ‘Check Aadhaar PVC card status’.
  • Step 3: On the new screen, you will be required to enter 28-digit SRN, 12-digit Aadhaar number and captcha code. The status will be reflected after clicking on ‘Check Status’.
